Apple Tries Pissing on Google’s Shoes

Apple CEO Steve Jobs: “This is like nothing we’ve ever seen before..."

Hours before Google was due to trot out its Nexus One Google Phone Tuesday, Apple sent out a statement saying that more than three billion apps have been downloaded in the roughly 18 months that its iTunes App Store has been open.

Reminding Google who’s king of the hill, Apple CEO Steve Jobs (pictured) added, “This is like nothing we’ve ever seen before.

The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

And just to show they’re not in different businesses Apple went and bought the mobile advertising firm Quattro Wireless for a reported $275 million.

Quattro has confirmed the news on its blog where it assures customers it’ll be device-neutral – at least for now. Google reportedly beat out Apple in winning the hand of Quattro rival AdMob in November with a check for $750 million.

Only three months ago Apple claimed users had downloaded more than two billion apps from its collection of more than 100,000 programs. Most of the apps are used on iPhones but last month iPod downloads passed iPhone downloads for the first time according to Flurry Analytics. There are about 16,000 apps available for Android phones on Google’s App Store.
